What a disappointing moment for Hawke's Bay rugby this week when Simon Tremain and Taine Randell resigned from the Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union Board.
These are rugby men of some pedigree and to see them walking away from the administration of the game they love is very sad.
Mr Tremain comes from a proud rugby family and was a good player in his own right, while Mr Randell needs no introduction as a former All Black captain. Not only do they have the rugby credentials but they are both proven businessmen and are very loyal to the Hawke's Bay region.
In a statement to Hawke's Bay Today earlier this week, the two men cited a difference in the future direction of the organisation to the current leadership. Mr Tremain and Mr Randell said the union wasn't performing to the high standards it could, and a new leadership direction was vital to any future success at both a national level but also at grassroots level.
There seems to have been rumblings on the board for a little while now and apparently Mr Tremain, Mr Randell and fellow board members Kevin Atkinson and Dan Druzianic raised issues about the organisation's leadership and board succession after the union's AGM in February.
