Last years Person of the Year, Flaxmere Boxing Academy head coach Craig McDougall

Last years Person of the Year, Flaxmere Boxing Academy head coach Craig McDougall

One of the projects I love being involved in is our search for the Hawke's Bay Today Person of the Year.

We believe it is important for us to look for someone who is worthy of that title. So many people do so much good in our community and their efforts should be recognised. We are looking for one of the following:

-Someone who has made a significant contribution to the Hawke's Bay community in terms of charity, fundraising or other non-profit organisation.

-Or someone who has achieved remarkable success in their chosen business, career or sport.

-Or a local who has demonstrated courageous or heroic actions.

Last year's winner, Flaxmere Boxing Academy head coach Craig McDougall, was the judges' unanimous choice and thoroughly deserved the award for all the hard work he has done with the youth of our community.

This year I am pleased that the deputy mayors of Napier and Hastings, Faye White and Cynthia Bowers, have agreed to join me on the judges' panel to decide who gets the top award.

The response from our readers has been fantastic and we have received a number of very good nominations that will make the choice just that little bit harder.

Nominations can be sent in until Monday morning when the judging panel will meet to decide who is Hawke's Bay Today's Person of the Year for this year. We will publish the results and a special interview with the winner in Hawke's Bay Today Weekend on Saturday, December 20.

So don't waste any time and get your nominations in.

-All nominations can be emailed to editor@hbtoday.co.nz with a few sentences explaining why you have chosen to nominate that person.
