I'm looking forward to the weekend with three big events happening in the Bay. Obviously there is the election. Our paper will be pulling out all the stops to give our readers comprehensive coverage of local and national results, with comment and analysis. So be sure to look out for our Monday edition.
Now, I'm sure there are some who are over the elections but it's so important because it will shape how our country will look for the next three years.
Like any election there will be winners and losers, make sure you get out there and have your say on who that will be.
Equally exciting for this rugby mad fan, is the Ranfurly Shield challenge between the Magpies and the Steamers. If you look at the stats you'd have to say it would take a pretty poor effort on the Magpies' part to let the shield slip away. But, having grown up in the Bay of Plenty and covering a lot of the Steamers matches as a sports reporter, I believe you can't discount them. It's been 10 years since they held the Log o' Wood and nine years since they've had a challenge. If that's not enough motivation for a team to lift, then I don't know what is. When it comes to the battle of the Bays both teams lift their game and it will be a great match to go and watch. I've been copping a bit of flak at work this week with my co-workers asking me to declare my allegiance but at this stage I'm keeping a foot in both camps. So no matter who wins I'll be happy.
The other big event tomorrow is Hawke's Bay Racing's JB Organics Spring Festival meeting at the Hastings Racecourse, featuring the Windsor Park Plate.
