Editorial: Thursdays even better reading

Hawke's Bay Today has come a long way since it became a morning newspaper two years ago today.

Since the first morning edition on March 19, 2012, a lot has happened, with the two biggest changes being a move to compact version in February last year and a change of printing presses about six months ago.

With these and other changes, the paper has sought to evolve, while remaining the voice of the community and putting local news first.

Tomorrow we launch some exciting initiatives to enhance the reader's experience and make your paper even more enjoyable.

Once a month on a Thursday - starting tomorrow - we will have a new travel section called Travel Via. We will focus on destinations both near and far and give our readers achievable travel options. Tomorrow's destinations include Australia, the United States and Africa.

The second new big feature we are unveiling tomorrow is a weekly specialised Central Hawke's Bay page. From now on, every Thursday we will have a page of news from Central Hawke's Bay written by our Waipukurau-based journalist, Nicki Harper.

Since I became editor two years ago, I have had frequent requests from readers in Central Hawke's Bay for a page similar to our Dannevirke News page. Finally we are able to give those readers their page each week, totally devoted to telling the news of their community.

Tomorrow's paper will be a bumper 48 pages, enough space to include our new features while retaining our existing liftout rural section, Heartland, and two Outdoors pages. So, whatever your interests, we believe Hawke's Bay Today has something for you.
