And I can see why.
Since arriving from the UK seven years ago, the majority of my time in Aotearoa has been spent in the South Island.
North Otago and Mid Canterbury to be more precise, Oamaru and Ashburton to be exact.
It certainly was a daunting thought when my partner and I organised our belongings and 8-month-old son to move north to Hawke's Bay in late March.
Although the same country, Hawke's Bay offers a different way of life, accompanied by very different surroundings.
It brought back memories of emigrating again, the excitement and anxiety, just without the horrifically boring flight.
But this time our destination was far more pleasant.
Although we can reflect on plenty of fond memories in the south, our short time in Hawke's Bay so far has left us wondering why we had never visited before.
While it's only 10 days since we arrived and first explored, there's not been an ounce of regret.
The good weather (usually), the lively parks, bustling restaurants and unique lifestyle offers so much for young families.
We can all get caught up in the humdrum and negativity of life, it's particularly easy in the news business, trust me.
But since arriving in Hawke's Bay, albeit via North Otago, Mid Canterbury and a brief stint in Wellington, it gave me food for thought.
To stop for a moment and take in where we live and appreciate what we have on our doorstep.
An epiphany, you might say, from this former whingeing Pom.
