It's good to see our councils supporting moves to get cleaner greener cars on our roads.

As a child I used to dream I'd be living the "Jetson" life one day.

I'd fly home from work in my personal space ship and enjoy a dinner cooked by Rosie the Robot.

Clearly reality has not kept up with my dreams.

An electric car would have been a more realistic dream.

These quiet, environmentally friendly vehicles are becoming more popular.

The Government openly supports businesses and drivers switching from petrol to electric transport while Air New Zealand is one company that incorporates electric vehicles in its fleet.

Hawke's Bay is one of the regions encouraging more electric vehicles on the road.

Unison Networks opened the region's first Unison Power Park in Hastings in May and now a public fast-charging station has been installed in Napier. People can charge their electric vehicle or EV for free at the Dickens St site up until April.

I'm all for technology that lessens our impact on the environment. We want to leave the water clean, the fields green and the air as pollution free as possible for our children.

These vehicles produce no emissions. Charging them is also clean as 80 per cent of our electricity is produced from renewable energy.

Both Hastings District and Napier City Council came on board to support Unison with the power parks.

Hastings is also leading by example with its parking team all using full electric vehicles.
It's great to see our councils are forward-thinking and supporting what may be a staple part of our children's life.

Hopefully more charging stations will encourage those in the market to look past a gas guzzler and go for a more environmentally friendly option.
