Tomorrow's forecast for Napier makes grim reading.

As of last night, Metservice predicted showers turning to rain (always a puzzling line), southerlies developing and a high of 21C. To boot, the sun was anticipated to dip below the horizon bang on 7pm.

That means the Hurricanes will play the Bulls in the damp, the draught and the dark.

But don't let that mellow your spirits.

For starters, daylight saving ends early Sunday.

So thanks to winding our clocks back after braving the game in demanding conditions, we can spend an extra hour the following morning under the covers - probably listening to the rain.

Either way, we should be stoked the Hurricanes are here.

Let's not forget the noise a decent muster of fans at McLean Park can make. And while we're at it, let's not underestimate the statement a decent muster will make to the powers who decide where (and if) the franchise will play outside the capital.

For years there was dissent about how infrequently the Canes graced the seaside Napier paddock.

Still, we can't continue to complain if we're not there to support them when they front on our doorstep.

Some find the team's mercurial nature hard to subscribe to. But I say that's part of the allure. One only has to think back to last Friday's fixture against the Crusaders, where they rained on Kieran Read's 100th Super match and ambushed the southern powerhouse in its own backyard to win 29-26.

We gravitate to the Canes to expect the unexpected.
