Editorial: Boy racers put others at risk

Speed kills and so too do acts of carelessness.

That's why I have no time for boy racers.

These drivers are putting themselves, and their passengers at risk - not to mention the unsuspecting public.

This paper has run too many stories about young people dying on our roads.

Sometimes people are luckier and survive but are often seriously injured and face months on the hard road to recovery.

Now a group of boy racers are targeting a couple on a quiet Greenmeadows St.

Andy and Linda Sinclair's driveway on their Forward Rd property has been left with smears of rubber across it and the grass berm torn up.

Boy racers have been using the front of their property to do burnouts.

It has been happening on and off for the past 18 months. Mr Sinclair and neighbours have called the police but they always get away too quickly.

This weekend's attack also saw a concrete block, which was placed along the berm to deter such things happening, smashed through his car window.

Those responsible then sped off.

While no one was hurt it does not mean that no one will be hurt next time.

What if they take a corner too wide as they sped off and collide with an oncoming vehicle?

Or misjudge the corner and there are pedestrians? I hate to think.

A careless driver who causes a crash also has to live with the consequences.
