The death of Millie Elder-Holmes' boyfriend at the weekend is another sad chapter in the life of a young lady who has endured more than most.
Twenty-six-year-old Connor Morris died in Massey, Auckland, folowing a street brawl on Saturday night. Ms Elder-Holmes is the adopted daughter of the late broadcasterSir Paul Holmes.
Mr Morris died at the scene of the incident in Don Buck Rd after police were called at about midnight. Police don't believe he was specifically targeted but are treating his death as a homicide.
Ms Elder-Holmes and Mr Morris had been in a relationship for many years and he had been credited with helping her turn her life around. Her battle with P has been well-documented and Ms Elder-Holmes has said in interviews that Mr Morris, who also was addicted to the drug, gave her the support she needed to come clean.
They had just returned from an OE and seemed to be happy and in love. After all they had been through, they deserved it.
But sometimes life can be quite cruel and one has to ask how much more this poor young lady has to go through.
It has been a life, especially the past few years, lived firmly in the public spotlight, given her father's status as a much-loved personality in this country.
Who will forget the sight of Sir Paul going to court to support the child he loved unconditionally when her addiction got her in trouble with the law?
