For many the Easter break of four days means a good time to take a short holiday, which means it will also be a time for traffic build-ups on the main highways leading in and out of Hawke's Bay.
The NZ Transport Agency has pointed out there would be certain times of Good Friday and Easter Monday when traffic flows will build from "busy" to "heavy" and travellers are being urged to drive with caution at peak times.
"We will see a lot of people heading into and out of the region to take advantage of the long weekend," NZTA's Napier journey manager Oliver Postings said.
Using Te Pohue as the point on State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo, the traffic build-up leaving the region would begin around 8.30am on Friday and be at its heaviest between 9.30am and noon.
On Monday the build-up was expected to spark up around 9am and be at its heaviest between 10am and 1.30pm.
