Motorists using the Napier-Hastings Expressway stretch between Westshore and Prebensen Drive on Wednesday evening are being urged to drive with caution as there are expected to be a good number of young cyclists about.
Triathlon Hawke's Bay is staging the annual Hawke's Bay Secondary Schools Triathlon for junior and senior entrants, and part of the event which begins at 5.30pm will see the cycling competitors using that expressway stretch as part of the course which will also take in Prebensen Drive to Severn St as well as Pandora Rd and Meeanee Quay.
The running section will not include using roadways.
While delays are expected to be negligible drivers are being asked to be cautious, especially on the bridgeway where the road narrows.
The New Zealand Transport Agency's extensive SH2 highway repairs programme continues this week and drivers can expect some delays up to five minutes as temporary speed restrictions and stop/go signalling will be in place.
