One person received moderate injuries after a car hit a power pole and landed in a ditch on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Pakipaki Rd, between Mangaroa and Maraekakaho roads, at about 5.30pm.

A police spokesperson said the driver, and only occupant, received moderate injuries and was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital by ambulance.

"It looks like the rear of the car took the brunt of the impact."

Unison posted on its Facebook page saying the crash caused an unplanned outage to parts of Hastings.

Traffic controls were in place while they isolated the power but the road was clear by about 7pm.
