A female driver trapped after a car crash in northern Hawke's Bay this morning has been freed.

A police spokesperson said they were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash at 11.15am on Pohokura Rd, Tutira.

It appeared the car had gone over a bank and the woman was trapped as a result, they said.

Central fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said two Napier appliances attended the crash and extricated one person from the vehicle within a 20 minute period.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said they treated one patient at the scene for minor injuries but they were not transported to hospital.
