Wednesday night's torrential downpour dumped 40mms of rain on the district.
Accompanied by thunder and lightning, the rain brought the March total to 141mm.
Norsewood weather watcher Lyn McConchie said the rain had made up for the earlier drier months.
"The temperatures aren't too low yet, with most night still around 10C to 14C, so the grass is growing well," she said.
