A single-vehicle truck crash near Pakipaki caused delays for motorists early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 2 (10km south of Hastings) at about 7am after a north-bound truck carrying a load of peas went off the road.
A St John spokesperson said a man was transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.
The hospital confirmed the patient, in his 70s, is now in a stable condition.
Police warned motorists to expect delays travelling north and south with traffic reported to be moving slowly due to the accident and the truck needing to be lifted out of a ditch.
