Weighing in at 1300kg, Glen Anthony Yale is one impressive bull.

"He's the complete package," judge Rowan Sandford said of the Simmental bull bred by Tony Thompson of Glen Anthony Stud at Waipukurau.

Mr Sandford said Glen Anthony Yale, known as Yogi Bear to his friends, is all you want in a beef sire for a rising six-year-old and that's why he took out the Meat and Wool Cup at the Dannevirke and Districts A&P Show on Saturday.

Champions in the ring at the Dannevirke and Districts A&P Show in the beef section, all came from Waipukurau's Glen Anthony Simmental Stud.

"He's very structured, sound and pretty tremendous," he said.

This is the seventh time Mr Thompson and his Glen Anthony Stud have had their name on the prestigious Meat and Wool Cup at the show, winning in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2000, with Yogi Bear taking the title last year too.

"I've been breeding these cattle since 1972, 44 years, I'm one of the one of the originals," Mr Thompson told the Dannevirke News. "In those days they (Simmental) were considered exotic cattle."

The Glen Anthony cattle stood out against the competition at the show, taking home the top prizes for champion junior bull, champion cow and champion junior heifer.
