Spring in Dannevirke has been stunning, with one resident describing a row of flowering cherry trees as simply the best.

"I think the flowering cherries at the New World supermarket are the best in the world," Craig Boyden said.

"They are the best specimens I've ever seen."

Mr Boyden said the sights and sounds of spring have been wonderful this year.

"It's been the most prolific year for flowering kowhai and I'm woken up every morning by a chorus from the tui," he said.

Spring has also been a winner for Dannevirke's Melissa Martin and her 2-year-old daughter, Imogene, who won $300 in a Facebook "like" promotion run by Taniwha Daffodils in Central Hawke's Bay.

A photo of Imogene, dressed in her Snow White outfit, taken by Ms Martin's sister Morgan Kernaghan, claimed the $300 prize, donated by Crowe Horwath.

Imogene took the prize with 189 likes and Ms Martin said she is grateful to all those who voted for her daughter.
