Despite clear, blue skies, Dannevirke warmed to just a chilly 4C yesterday, after an overnight low of -5C left snow on the Ruahine Ranges behind the town. Unlike the weekend when the snow stretched from the Tararua Ranges at Pahiatua to Norsewood, Tuesday night's fall was confined to the ranges behind Dannevirke.
Early in the week at Norsewood, the big chill sent daytime temperatures tumbling to just 1C, weather-watcher Lyn McConchie said.
And the month's rainfall so far is 40mm.
In July, Norsewood's rainfall was 86mm, less than was usual for July, although heavy rain in the two previous months made up for the shortfall, Ms McConchie said.
The MetService is predicting a high of 11C tomorrow, with rain which will continue through the weekend.
