An unusually warm, balmy autumn has given way to traditional, cold, wet and windy and unpredictable weather.
At upper Norsewood, 64mm of rain has fallen so far this month, with more predicted, weather-watcher Lyn McConchie said.
"If we have four inches [101mm] for May, it would definitely mean we did not have a Tararua El Nino this year.
"However, all this wind isn't welcome and, here in Norsewood, I know we're getting stronger gales than elsewhere.
"The wind has been so strong, it's moved a large, plastic water tank, thrown it on its side and jammed it against a nearby fence."
