A logging truck which lost its load just south of Dannevirke yesterday morning caused traffic delays for more than two hours.
The truck's trailer tipped, spilling logs across the road near Wi Duncan Rd and State Highway 2 at around 6.30am, but Pete Sinclair, the Dannevirke Volunteer Fire Brigade's chief, said no one was injured in the accident.
This was the brigade's 10th callout for January and was followed a couple of hours later by a call due to an alarm activation at Oringi. Mr Sinclair said his brigade had been relatively busy this month, with an average of one callout a day.
And brigade volunteers were called away from their Christmas lunch too. "We were called out to a home when a pig on a spit got away on the residents," Mr Sinclair said.
