Police say they have identified the man who robbed the Hi-Way Dairy at knife-point on Monday, January 18.
"We know who he is and we're now searching trying to locate him," Senior Sergeant Nathan Davis of the Tararua police told the Dannevirke News.
Mr Davis said he was not prepared to say if the alleged offender was a local man, but police had previously said they were looking for a man of average height and large build, who entered the dairy through the back door, crawling on the floor, before getting up and confronting owner Hiren Shiroyo with a knife and demanding cigarettes.
After being given a pouch of tobacco the man left through the back entrance.
Although Mr Shiroyo and his wife Pooja were shaken by the robbery, neither were injured.
