Dairy donation boost for foodbank

Cups of tea are still flowing for Dannevirke foodbank recipients, thanks to the generosity of dairy farmers and Fonterra.

After a plea by the Dannevirke Salvation Army's mission director Lynda Ellington in her regular newsletter, dairy farmers Nadine and Craig Bishop arranged for Fonterra to help out with milkpowder.

"This donation will make a huge difference and we're so grateful to our dairy farmers and Fonterra," Mrs Ellington said.

"Whenever our foodbank gets a bit low on supplies I put a notice in our parish newsletter and this time the Bishops and Fonterra responded and we're receiving a $25kg bag of milkpowder on a monthly basis."

Dannevirke dairy farmers Nadine and Craig Bishop organised for Fonterra to supply the Dannevirke Salvation Army foodbank with much-needed milkpowder.

The bulk bag of milkpowder goes to parishioner Kim Spooner's commercial kitchen where it's rebagged, three cups a bag, which makes three litres of milk.

"Using the commercial kitchen keeps it clinical," Mrs Ellington said.

"We've also given some to St Vincent de Paul and the foodbank in Woodville, because it's about sharing the love."

Having the bags of milkpowder available for foodbank recipients allows the Salvation Army to cater for families' differing needs, Mrs Ellington said.
