The festivities of the Hawke's Bay Summer Cycling Carnival continued yesterday when about 100 keen cyclists took on a 40km expedition from the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds to Te Awanga Estate and back.
The iWay Fun Ride, a non-competitive part of the cycling carnival, started at the Showgrounds about 11am and weaved its way to the vineyard where cyclists took a well-deserved pit stop.
Napier City Council event manager Kevin Murphy said the stop had plentiful food, cold beverages, coffee, shade and even live music by local artist Ian Munro.
"This is the exact opposite of the competitive races. You can take your time, enjoy the ride and have fun on the trails," he said.
And have fun they had; a sunny day with a high of 22C provided perfect conditions to ride along recreational cycling pathways.
