Keen cyclists will have to take the road less travelled while a popular Hastings cycle track is revamped.
The iWay swing bridge over Karamu Stream, Whakatu, near Hastings will be closed temporarily for upgrading.
Yesterday cyclists riding over the stream may have noticed a sag in the bridge, which was being caused by scaffolding erected near the bridge weighing it down.
The scaffolding had been put up early, a Hastings District Council spokeswoman said, with the scheduled maintenance brought forward to Monday.
The bridge is expected to reopen by October 13. Until then, a diversion will be in place for cyclists.
