Bonnie Cakes donated a further 400 mini cupcakes and cake pops, which will be sold directly to businesses on the day.
Heaven's will be running a special deal on August 26, where anyone who buys an SPCA cupcake and is wearing an animal outfit, hat, T-shirt or other accessory will get a free regular coffee, hot chocolate or tea.
"It's just a great local cause, and we want to try and give them as much support as possible," said Jason Heaven, managing director of Heaven's Bakery.
Hastings New World will deliver 672 un-iced cupcakes for schools to use as a "double whammy" fundraiser - the SPCA will sell them at $2 each, then children ice them and pass them on for $3 to $3.50 - with profits going back into the school.
"Some schools have chosen to donate all the proceeds to us," Ms Johnson said.
Hastings children involved in Cupcake Day also get an educational visit, where they are taught about the SPCA and how any money they raise will benefit animals in their care.
"For older children, we also talk about what it means to be a community not-for-profit organisation, so what we are doing ties into all levels of learning."
Hawke's Bay cafes and bakeries as well as members of the public are encouraged to support the SPCA by baking cupcakes and selling them on the day, then passing on the proceeds.
Individuals and businesses can register to bake and sell cupcakes, or pre-order some tasty treats to be delivered on August 26, online at www.spcahastings.org.nz or napierspca.org.nz.
