National's Tukituki MP Craig Foss has been made a Minister outside Cabinet in John Key's Government.
Prime Minister John Key has announced Mr Foss will take over the portfolios of Racing, Civil Defence, Senior Citizens, and Associate Local Government from the retiring John Carter.
He has also been appointed to the Associate Commerce portfolio.
Foss, who returned to New Zealand in 2000 after a career in the finance sector, was elected to Parliament in 2005. Since 2008 he has served as chair of Parliament's Finance and Expenditure Select Committee.
"I'm immensely proud to be the MP for Tukituki. I'm now looking forward to the new challenge of making sure our community's voice is even stronger inside Government.
"It's a privilege to be appointed to serve as a Minister outside John Key's Cabinet," said Mr Foss.
He said his first job as Minister will be to listen, read and learn about the details of his new portfolios.
"I'm someone who likes to do my homework. I embrace new challenges and I'm determined to return the trust and faith that has been placed in me," he said.
