A post on the Napier City Council's Facebook page said the Eternal Flame meant just as much to staff, some of whom were descendants of World War soldiers, as it did to the community.
The post went on to state the two LPG bottles were connected in such a way as to ensure if one emptied, the other automatically kicked in to keep the flame alight.
"Please remember that this is a temporary home, until our project working group is able to establish a new venue for the flame."
Four-term Napier city councillor Kevin Price said the committee - comprising councillors, Art Deco Trust and RSA members - had been set up to discuss the Eternal Flame and now it was time to wait for a result.
"I think we need to give them a fair go and hopefully they come back with the right answer.
