"There's no question I'll be in front of Simon."
However, Mr Tremain has effectively said that he was looking forward to standing by the finishing line, which he would have already crossed, and watching his rivals arrive.
It will be the third year Mr Webber has taken part and he described the event as good, competitive fun and a great way for corporate groups to get together for a spot of competition as well as fundraising for local causes.
"The whole point is to get people involved - and most of all it's a lot of fun," he said.
"There will be nine of us in three kayak teams - we're not doing the swimming this time," he said, adding that despite the fact they all came under the Brebner umbrella there would be plenty of inter-firm rivalry going on.
"But I think my team might have the weak link - my running."
He reckoned their three teams were all in pretty good heart and shape for the start.
"To differing degrees though," he added.
Tremains spokesperson Libby Scammell said entries were well up on last year when the number of teams was in the low 200s.
"We are well into the 300s now and it's tracking very well."
That would equate to more than 1000 individuals taking part.
While entries were set to close off today she said there were always a few late additions.
Among the corporates, Napier City Council is fielding 32 teams.
"We have been seeing so much positive feedback about it," Ms Scammell said.
The event, which was first staged in 1994, is run in association with Sport Hawke's Bay and centres around the Esplanade Domain in Westshore and Pandora Pond.
Start time, for the swimming and kayaking legs is at 10am at Pandora Pond.
Swimmers will take on 600m while the kayakers paddle for 1700m, while walkers or runners take on a 5km course and cyclists a 20km ride.
The Metservice forecast for Sunday is for 25C, sunshine although partly cloudy.
