Star of the New Zealand cult classic film What We Do in the Shadows says the new revamped American television adaptation has really hit the nail on the head.

"I've seen a few clips and from what I've seen it looks awesome," What We Do in the Shadows star Cori Gonzalez-Macuer said.

"To be honest I don't think it would've worked if Taika and Jemaine weren't involved."

Macuer played the human-turned vampire Nick in the 2014 hit film and said that from hearing from those working on the project fans of the original film are in for a real treat.

"A few people from the movie went over to work on it and by all accounts and from what I've heard it's meant to be as good as the film."

The Chile-born comedian is coming back to Napier this week with his stand up show for the first time in two years.

Macuer is doing a small tour around the North Island in preparation for the upcoming International Comedy Festival in May.

"The NZ International Comedy Festival is coming up soon so I thought I'd try to get as much stage time as possible to try new material and do a full hour," Macuer said.

He hasn't performed in Napier for two years, but says he clearly remembers the last time he came over.

"I remember the last time I was here it was really bad weather and the road from Taupo to Napier was closed so we had to go via Gisborne which took us about 11 hours," Macuer said.

"We made it literally 10 minutes before the show started. Hopefully I get to chill out a bit longer before this week's show."

The 2006 Billy T Award winner said that Napier is one of his favourite places to tour in New Zealand.

"I love Napier and the Bay in general. It's always at the top of my list when I take my show around the country," Macuer said.

"The audiences are great and I have friends there who I get to catch up with whenever I'm in town."

Macuer said that people can expect a few new jokes, but still expect the same monotone, low-energy style that he is known for.

"I have about thirty new jokes since the last time I was there. Other than that, it's pretty much the same deadpan, low energy, monotone sh*t, kind of style that I have."
