Lessons have been learnt, as Napier City Council puts its controversial velodrome project "to bed".
The end of the $22.9 million facility was signalled at a council meeting yesterday, when councillors agreed to stop progress on its business case.
It has been scrutinised mostly because of the cost of accommodating a velodrome.
"Our community has made it very clear they do not want the multi-use sports facility to proceed," at-large councillor Kirsten Wise said yesterday.
The facility was to be located at Pettigrew Green Arena. Although the velodrome was unpopular, the facility would have provided much needed indoor court space.
