Spring has finally arrived in the Bay with a spate of fine weather on the way this week.

However, the sunshine won't stop the frosts which will greet locals today and tomorrow, Metservice meteorologist Emma Blades said.

Bay locals can expect chilly starts to the day this week, today will bring a 3C low in the morning while tomorrow could drop to as low as -1C.

"Although the days will be nice and fine there should be the odd frost this week," Ms Blades said.

Ms Blades said the air is coming on a direct path from Antarctica with a bitter chill to it.

Northerly winds will see temperatures hover around 15C for the first part of the week.

The region will have three days of sunshine, starting today, with temperatures set to rise to the late teens in the afternoon before the heavens re-open just in time for the weekend.

It has been a snappy start to the season with three wet days to kick off spring and some bitterly cold temperatures. A southerly change late on Friday afternoon will bring high cloud and scattered showers which should stick around for Saturday.
