Police in Hastings were last night looking at CCTV images to get an idea of who tried to take a hammer to crack open a cigarette safe at a local dairy.
Police said they were called to the dairy on Grays Road at 7pm, following reports that two males, in possession of a hammer, tried to jump the counter and take cigarettes.
No assault was reported, so it looked like the hammer was used to try and open the cigarette safe, police said.
It was not known if they had been successful in taking items.
"We're having a look to see if we can get some CCTV to examine what happend in more detail."
