The Anglican Church has still not come up with a decision on blessing same-sex marriages despite another day of closed-door discussion at its 140-member 62nd General Synod being held in Napier.
The debate is seen as a step to avoid a split in the church, with the opening day of the biannual synod on Monday unable to approve a working report which proposed a blessing for gay marriages, without the marriages themselves being performed in the church.
Another working group was set up to report yesterday, and a church spokesman promised there would be a decision by the time the synod ended tomorrow.
