FLOWING AGAIN: All of the chlorine-free water taps are being turned back on tonight at 6pm after being turned off temporarily on Friday. PHOTO/SUPPLIED.

The chlorine-free taps in the Hastings district will be back on tonight after they were temporarily turned off on Friday.

Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule said the water test results had showed the filters were not working as well as desired so out of an "abundance of caution" council turned the taps off.

Since Friday the configuration of the filters and taps had been changed and further tests were carried out.

Mr Yule was now happy that there was no issue with the filters.

The taps are sited outside the Hastings Library, in the car park outside the Flaxmere Library, and in Romanes Park in Havelock North.

The filters remove the chlorine that is used to treat the water supply.
