A pair of infants injured in a head on car crash on Thursday have been discharged from Hawke's Bay Hospital as all seven people injured are now out of intensive care.
The two-vehicle crash on SH2 near Ohuia Road injured seven people, and left two people fighting for their lives.
On Saturday one of those people, a male in his 40s, was still in the hospital's ICU department. However, a hospital spokeswoman yesterday confirmed that the patient was now in a stable condition.
Another three adults, a male in his 50s and two females - one in their 50s and one in her 30s - and a female teenager were all now in stable condition, while the two injured infants were discharged on Saturday.
Police initiated a serious crash investigation following the crash and Sergeant Dean Plowman, from Tairawhiti Police, said that was still ongoing but it had already shown the importance of ensuring children were properly restrained.
"Early indications are that speed is believed to be a factor in the crash and the Serious Crash Unit will investigate this further.
