Car hits power pole in Taradale

A driver has moderate injuries after hitting a power pole near the EIT in Taradale this morning.

A Police spokeswoman said they were called to the scene of the single vehicle crash at 10.30am on Gloucester St.

She said the driver of the car was not trapped but had been injured.

"The power pole has been pretty badly damaged. Traffic control will be put in place until the power company arrives."

Unison relationships manager Danny Gough said due to the repairs they have to carry out and for safety reasons, they needed to disconnect the power.

'We are preparing for that now and advising affected customers that their power will be shut down from about 1pm - 1.30pm for two hours this afternoon."

He said it will affect about 200 customers including Pettigrew Green Arena and EIT.

'We realise it is an inconvenience but unfortunately with an accident like that there's not much more we can do."
