A man being sought by police since the robbery of the Magpies Sports Bar and TAB in central Hastings 11 days ago has been arrested in Wellington.
The 31-year-old was arrested on Sunday in Wellington and appeared in Wellington District Court yesterday charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. Another man, aged 32 and arrested in the standoff which involved a lockdown of several schools and pre-school learning centres for several hours, appeared in Hastings District Court last week.
Both have been remanded in custody without pleas to appear in Hastings District Court on June 26.
Police said late yesterday they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the holdup, which happened when a gun was pointed at a female staff member by one of two people who covered their heads and faces with dark hoods as they entered the King St bar moments after midday on June 1.
