National candidate for Napier David Elliott has used election today to visit his mother in hospital, spend time with his children, run errands and catch up on household chores.
His time has been so focused on his campaign over the last five months that things around the house have fallen by the wayside, he said.
"It's been nice to have kind of a normal day again.
"I've been doing some of the work around the house that needed doing...I've been with family and did the lawns.
"I also got some gifts for those that have been helping me as a thank you."
Earlier today he visited his mother in hospital and set up a television so she could watch the results as she would be missing his election party at the Napier Sailing Club this evening.
National candidate for Tukituki Lawrence Yule said he has made the most of a quiet day by having a sleep in, spending time with his wife and getting a haircut.
