Burglaries a concern to Dannevirke police

Three burglaries last weekend are of major concern to Dannevirke Police and they're urging the public to come forward if they have any information.

"Sometime between November 4 and 6, two houses on High St were entered and a significant amount of furniture and household items were stolen," Sergeant Paul Adrian of the Dannevirke Police said.

Items stolen include a washing machine, beds, large home appliances and kitchen equipment.

"The items stolen suggests to us this was someone setting up home," Mr Adrian said.

"There was also a burglary on Tennyson St at a home being renovated, with a significant number of power tools stolen."

At one of the High St homes, the owner wasn't home and a neighbour told the Dannevirke News the second was the home of a deceased person.

"These were all very organised burglaries and the offenders must have had some kind of major transport, such as a truck," Mr Adrian said.

Police have canvassed the neighbourhood asking residents for information and police forensics have been on site.

"The Dannevirke Community Patrol has also dropped flyers around the area. There may be someone who heard noises at 1am or 2am who may be able to help with our inquiries," Mr Adrian said.

Also over the weekend the Dannevirke High School was tagged, but Mr Adrian said youth aid officers had done a great job and lined up likely culprits.
