The Hastings Bird Club is holding its annual bird show and sale at Ebbett Park School this weekend.
The show is open to the public for viewing on Saturday from noon until 5pm and on Sunday morning from 9am until noon.
"We are expecting between 400-500 birds to be entered over the weekend," says organiser Sarah Nukunuku.
Birds and their owners will be travelling from all over New Zealand, with varieties including budgies, canaries, cockateils, ringnecks, love birds and quails. Birds will compete in open champion and novice categories and there will be birds for sale, bred by some of the best breeders within New Zealand.
"This is a nice family outing, children enjoy coming through and looking at all the different varieties. Anyone that has an interest in birds should come down and have a look, meet some of the breeders, have a chat, ask questions and get advice. We love getting new members of all ages and with any breed of bird."
