A two-year-old boy was left in a serious condition after being run over by a van in Flaxmere this morning.
The toddler was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital at around 9am with a skull fracture and broken pelvis.
Police said the boy had been hit by a kindergarten van doing pick-ups in the Flaxmere cul-de-sac, Bristol Place
In a statement today police said they boy's injuries include a skull fracture and pelvis fracture and multiple abrasions. It is believed the boy was hit by the front of the van and went underneath it.
Police are currently trying to ascertain the circumstances of the crash. His parents took him to a local doctor but he was immediately sent to hospital from there.
Police have identified the van driver, who is being interviewed this afternoon. No further details are available at this time.
