WHAT'S THE BEST AND THE WORST THING ABOUT BEING A FAMOUS WRITER?
The worst thing about being a writer is that you spend a lot of time sitting on your own writing stuff. But when you get all the characters in your head and you're enjoying the story, sitting at home writing all day also feels brilliant!
WHAT DO THINK IT IS ABOUT YOUR BOOKS THAT APPEALS TO YOUNG READERS?
I think it's the fact that they're an attainable fantasy. It's not like Harry Potter, where you have dragons and magic. Kids like CHERUB because it feels like it could be for real.
WHAT'S THE SECRET TO MAKING YOUR CHARACTERS TOUGH YET BELIEVABLE?
I think all characters need a mix of positive and negative traits. If they're all good or all bad, they're just not believable.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PARENTS TO GET THEIR KIDS READING RATHER THAN WATCHING TV OR PLAYING COMPUTER GAMES?
First off, don't make reading something you're forced to do. I've yet to meet a kid who doesn't moan that they're bored at some point, and that's where you need to pounce.
WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE WHEN IT COMES TO VIOLENCE IN YOUR BOOKS?
My books are quite violent. We generally try to set the level around that of a TV cop show.
WHAT IS THE FIRST BOOK YOU REMEMBER READING?
It was a book about a cat, but I've got no idea what it was called!
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST IN THE ENTIRE WORLD?
Fred Flintstone.

Johnny Cash.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO CELEBRATE FINISHING A BOOK?
Funny enough, I always feel a bit sad, like saying goodbye to an old friend.
THREE TOP TIPS FOR ASPIRING WRITERS?
1. Read lots of different books.
2. Try writing in lots of different styles; you might be surprised by what you're good at.
3. Ask people to read and criticise your work. Criticism can sometimes be hurtful, but your writing won't improve if you don't listen to what people say.
