A new initiative has nearly tripled a local motorcycle club's annual fundraising efforts for a cancer charity.
The Hawke's Bay Harley Motorcycle Club raised more than $14,000 for CanTeen during its annual Spring Run on Saturday due to 18 members also shaving their heads and beards for The charity.
Nearly 400 riders from Kerikeri to Christchurch took part in the ride which had a 200km route around Hawke's Bay before participants met at the Hastings Racecourse for the Shave Clean for CanTeen and an after function.
Hawke's Bay Harley Motorcycle Club president Cazz Taylor said having the shave at the end of the Spring Run was a way to help raise more money as well as gain a small insight into what the CanTeen children had gone through.
It was also about showing the children that these "big rough-looking blokes" cared and wanted to help, he said.
