The Government's $25 million spend on Hawke's Bay roading projects was one of the first actions of Matariki, the Hawke's Bay Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS), announced last year.
It came from the Napier Port Access investigation, part of the Government's Accelerated Regional Roading Programme, recommended in December 2015 a programme to address efficiency and safety problems.
At the REDs launch improvements to the SH2/Watchman Rd intersection, the Prebensen/Hyderabad intersection, and the SH50 expressway were announced.
While safety changes have been made, the NZ Transport Agency announced in April that State Highway 50 was performing to expectations so further improvements were not necessary.
Hawke's Bay Regional councillor and Regional Transport Committee chairman Alan Dick said once current and planned roading projects on the Heretaunga Plains were complete the region's roading network would be to "a very high standard".
