Date with Destiny, p33The doting grandparents of Warriors captain Simon Mannering won't get to the NRL rugby league grand final in Sydney tomorrow but they have given him a family send-off.
Taradale couple Kaye and Glenys Gillon stayed with their grandson in Auckland on his last night at home before the team flew out earlier this week for the showdown with the Manly Sea Eagles.
The two had decided against making the trans-Tasman trip.
"It's a bit too quick to arrange," Mr Gillon said. "It would have been a bit easier if we'd had a fortnight or so to organise it, and it's a long way to go for 80 minutes."
They have managed to get to Auckland for one game this year, joining players' wives in a club box for the match against Newcastle Knights last month, but have confined most of this season's excitement to the sitting room in front of the TV.
