Hastings Host Lions Club president Ian Le Page with some of the items for sale this weekend

Bag a bargain in book sale The Hastings Host Lions is holding its annual book and music sale this weekend, fundraising for Lions projects within the Hawke's Bay community.

"Our annual book sale has become a real 'must do' for book lovers and collectors," said Alan Harvey of the Hastings club.

"Buyers come from all over New Zealand and line up ready for the doors to open and over the two days the bookworms just keep coming to sort through the thousands and thousands of volumes available for sale."

Mr Harvey believes there are many first edition books among the treasures and is confident there are bargains to be had.

Each year since its inception, some 28 years ago, a dedicated team of volunteers from the Hastings Host Lions Club has spent hundreds of hours over several months sorting and collating books in preparation for the sale.

This year is no different with tens of thousands of books, magazines and puzzles donated from members of the community.

The proceeds of the sale are for the betterment of the community and Hastings Host Lions Club.

The sale will assist the club to make a considerable donation towards the Hastings District Council makeover of the park on the corner of Sylvan and Grove roads which is to be renamed the Lions Community Park.
