Hundreds of people are expected to gear up this Sunday for the annual Tremains Triathlon.
For the first time in recent memory the long-standing team event will go without a leg in Pandora Pond, which remains closed due to water contamination.
Last week organisers of the Tremains Triathlon, Tremain Real Estate and Triathlon Hawke's Bay, made the decision to replace the swim/kayak and stand-up paddle board leg of the triathlon with a 2km run/walk.
The triathlon has been running since 1994 and has become the largest multi-team event in the region, with almost 1000 people competing last year.
The water-based leg change means the event will be solely based from the new finish area at the Meeanee Quay Reserve.
