After more than three decades of producing some of the region's most familiar wine labels, Ngatarawa owners Alwyn and Brian Corban are stepping away from the family business.
Yesterday Alwyn Corban confirmed Mission Estate Winery was to acquire the trademarks and brands of the Hawke's Bay business they had built for 36 years.
"We think it's the best move for the brands and we think it's the best move for ourselves. When you look at it I turned 65 this year and Brian is 71 so I think it's a good move."
Mr Corban said both the vineyard and winery would be leased to the Mission on a fixed term basis and that he would continue, as he had for decades, to live in the historic homestead on the property.
The Corban family's wine-making heritage goes back to 1902 when Assid Abraham Corban founded Corbans Wines in Henderson, West Auckland.
