Napier is to shed the commercial branding of its major annual attraction to be more up front with it's own name in the matter of Art Deco.
The Art Deco Trust says its annual festival, set to draw tens of thousands of people into the city from February 14-17 — not mention the many more in spill over throughout the year, will be known as the Napier Art Deco Festival.
It has been known as Tremains Art Deco since a four-year deal was agreed between the trust and Tremains in 2013, after the end of the previous sponsorship arrangement linking the weekend with transtasman print company GEON, which had assumed the rights held further back by local print company Brebner.
The latest change to the festival, now in its 31st year, has come through increased support from Napier City Council, Mayor Bill Dalton saying it made a "considered decision" to increase the level of funding for the Trust overall.
"We already partner with the Art Deco Trust in a variety of ways, such as supporting the regeneration of deco buildings through the Robert McGregor Heritage Fund, sponsoring the Art Deco Festival and so on," Dalton said.
