The Cranford Hospice coffers received another boost last night.
About 50 people attended the first Tremains art auction at Napier's Cossie House, raising about $4000 for the region's hospice. Simon Tremain conducted the auction of art accumulated over 50 years by the late Cedric and Joan Alexander. The collection featured work by New Zealand artists Lance O'Gorman, Michael Blow, Lynn Taylor, Peter Beadle, Ion Brown, Jonathan White and Wayne Sinclair.
Mr Tremain said the experience was incredibly enjoyable and he was rapt to reach the target of $15,000-$20,000. There were 31 pieces sold in total - the highest price paid being a Sharen Watson piece that sold for $1000. "It's fantastic, we are very happy," Mr Tremain said. The family generously donated 25 per cent of the auction proceeds to Cranford.
Cranford general manager Helen Blaxland said it was a privilege to support families and patients and thanked the community for its support.
Tremains hopes to make it an annual event.
